The Nebraska State Patrol said Union County, S.D. officials have found evidence that leads them to believe the infant's body may be buried in a landfill at Jackson, Neb.

Jackson is about ten miles west of Sioux City, Iowa.

Authorities said officers received a report Tuesday that the baby was born Feb. 2 in Union County and placed in a plastic bag and then a garbage can.

The contents of the garbage can were picked up the next day and taken to a landfill near Jackson.

Volunteers and officers from state and local agencies in Nebraska, South Dakota and Iowa are searching through approximately 15,000 tons of garbage in an effort to find the body.
