The cost to fill your gas tank keeps going up with no end in sight. In the past month the average price of gas rose from $1.60 to $1.67.
AAA says oil refineries are running low because they are now producing heating fuel instead of crude oil.
“Right now we’re about at the lowest we’ve been in history. They’re putting out a supply for like 17 days out where the normal supply is about 23 days,” said Marilyn Muir with AAA.
Another reason for the price hike is that refineries are now required to reduce the amount of sulfur in the gasoline they produce. Many European companies are finding that hard to do saying they may have to shut down completely.
Muir adds that prices could go up to more than $2.00 over the summer.
