Nebraska State Patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins says authorities were in the process of issuing an Amber Alert before a trooper spotted the suspect in a child abduction case.

The patrol says its Omaha dispatch center received a call at 11:54 a.m. Tuesday morning. A woman claimed her three-year-old son was taken from a gas station from the Interstate 80 Ashland exit at gunpoint by his father.

The suspect was identified as 36-year-old Donald Eugene Harbert.

The trooper spotted the car and was able to take the suspect into custody after a short pursuit. The patrol says the child was recovered uninjured.

Collins says Harbert was taken to a hospital for treatment, but was expected to be released into the custody of the Cass County Jail.
