Infant Body

By: Associated Press

The storm that dropped fresh snow on northeast Nebraska temporarily suspended the search for the body of a newborn boy.

Volunteers armed with hoes and rakes sorted through garbage at a landfill at Jackson over the weekend.

But because of the storm, the search was put on hold.

Authorities think the baby was born February second in Union County, placed in a trash bag, and put in a garbage can. A garbage hauler picked up the can the next day and the contents were dumped in the landfill outside Jackson.

The Union County sheriff has interviewed the baby's mother and says she has cooperated. Her name hasn't been released, and she has not been charged.
