The Nebraska State Patrol confirms what most law enforcement officers in the Lincoln County area had suspected. The body found in an irrigation canal near Brady Tuesday is that of a missing former Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputy Richard Lingbloom of Maxwell.
The Patrol. said Wednesday night that the identity was confirmed through dental records during an autopsy conducted in Scottsbluff.
Lingbloom was first reported missing last Nov. 11, 2003.
The Patrol says it will work with the Lincoln County sheriff's office to recover Lingbloom's missing pickup, which they suspect is also in the canal.
Lincoln County Sheriff Jim Carman says it is a sad day for law enforcement in general in the region. Lingbloom had served with the Lincoln County sheriff for 21 years before being forced to retire earlier last year due to health reasons.
Funeral services for Lingbloom are scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Maxwell High School.
