The 18-year-old brother of former Nebraska football standout has pleaded guilty to two bank robberies.

Aaron Shanle of St. Edward Wednesday pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Omaha to robbing the Bank of Leigh in Creston and the Platte Center Bank of a combined $10,000. The brother of former Husker linebacker Scott Shanle also pleaded guilty to using a gun in the Bank of Leigh robbery.

The younger Shanle says he robbed the banks and used the money to buy a one-way airline ticket to Helsinki, Finland, to visit a foreign exchange student he had dated in St. Edwards.

A travel agency became suspicious when Shanle paid for the ticket with cash.

The US Attorney's Office agreed to drop the second gun charge which would cut an automatic minimum sentence of 25 years under federal sentencing guidelines.

Shanle will be sentenced in May. He faces at least seven years in federal prison for the gun charge and up to 25 years for each robbery.
