Madison County Attorney Joe Smith said he can finally begin taking stock of the human toll taken by the killing of five people in a Norfolk bank.

Smith prosecuted all four men accused in the Sept. 26, 2002, killings at a U.S. Bank branch. All four have been convicted of five counts of first-degree murder, including this week's conviction of Gabriel Rodriguez.

Smith said he has been to the memorial built since the bank was torn down, but only as part of his job. Smith said he plans to go down there at some point now, alone.

Smith said now that all the suspects have been convicted, everyone involved in the case can get their life back together.
