Hagel Wants Rice to Testify

By: Associated Press
Updated: Tue 6:20 AM, Mar 30, 2004

Hagel says all of America would benefit from Rice's testimony. He says her testifying would go a long way toward renewing confidence and trust among the American people with President Bush and the War Against Terrorism.

Rice has spoken to the commission in private but she has declined to testify under oath in public saying she is protected by executive privilege.

But Hagel says this is an unprecedented situation that requires an unprecedented response.

His comments came in response to a question from a high school student attending the Nebraska Capitol Forum on America's Future.

Hagel spoke to the students via teleconference from Washington, D.C. Monday. About 100 high schoolers from across Nebraska were at the meeting at the state capitol.
