A bullet fired into a moving car missed a Kearney toddler by inches.
That's the word from Kearney police investigating the shooting about one Tuesday afternoon. Police say 21-year-old Stephanie Evans of Kearney was in northern Kearney when a bullet the size of a nickel penetrated a rear side window of her car.
A portion of the bullet lodged in the upper seat cushion on the back passenger side of the car, three to four inches from her two-year-old son sitting in his car seat in the middle of the back seat.
Police Chief Dan Lynch says Evans heard a noise and stopped her car to investigate when she saw the broken window. Evans and her son were not injured.
Police have no suspects.
