The Nebraska Sports Council held a one-mile kids fun run on Saturday, October 31st called the Halloween Trick Or Trot.
The run was held at Pioneers Park at 8:30 a.m. and promoted through the P.E. Departments of most area elementary Schools. The run was open to kids in grades kindergarten through fifth.
"We just thought it would be a great day and a good time to get the kids out and get them some activity," said Dave Mlnarik, Executive Director of the Nebraska Sports Council. "Most of them are going to be out hitting the candy tonight so what a great way to start the day and get them some good physical activity."
"One of the things we have done with the Cornhusker State Games is just to provide fun - something that would be enjoyable for kids but obviously on the health side," said Mlnarik. "You know if you can get out and run a mile that's saying something and really most of these kids have been getting ready for the race and that means that they are out there two or three, four times a week and going out getting some physical activity. It's really important for kids to know and develop those habits when they are young and that's the key thing."
This is the first year for the Trick or Trot run in Lincoln. The run replaced the Pumpkin Patch Run that usually takes place on Halloween.
1,110 kids were registered for the event.
