A Valentine, Nebraska native is the latest casualty from the Cornhusker State in Iraq.

The South Dakota National Guard says specialist Dennis Morgan of Valentine was killed Friday when an explosive device went off near his armored vehicle.

Morgan, 22, was a member of the 153rd Engineer Battalion from Winner, South Dakota. They deployed to the Middle East last February. The Guard says Morgan was manning an automatic weapon on his vehicle as part of a security force.

Morgan is the third Nebraskan to be killed in Iraq since the beginning of the month. U.S. Army Sergeant David McKeever of Kearney was killed April 5 in Baghdad while guarding a hospital. On April 12, Marine Private Noah Boye of Grand Island was killed during a battle in Fallujah.
