A 49-year-old Phillips man has been charged with second-offense drunken driving after colliding with a Harvard school bus Monday night.

According to Officer Roger Philbeck at the Grand Island Police Department, the school bus was traveling eastbound on Highway 34 in Grand Island around 10:30 p.m.

The bus stopped 100 feet east of Wartman Road at a railroad crossing.

Philbeck says the driver turned on lights and flipped out the bus's stop sign.

That's when a 1995 Buick sedan driven by 49-year-old Matthew Patsios collided with the back of the bus.

Ten members of the Harvard volleyball team and a teacher were taken to the hospital, according to Philbeck.

They were treated and released.

Patsios was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and was transported to the Hall County Jail.
