At least one third of Lincoln's children are considered overweight or obese.
That staggering figure from a report by Trust for America's Health is a big reason childhood obesity is taking center stage in the Capitol city.
"Teach a Kid to Fish", a Lincoln non-profit organization, is increasing awareness of the epidemic that's helped Nebraska climb to the 21st ranking among obese states.
Dr. Karla Lester, Executive Director of "Teach a Kid to Fish", says, "I felt like it declared itself in our community, that we needed to have a collaborative effort and it needed to be more than a doctor, one on one working with a child and a family at a time."
Tuesday night's gathering was meant to develop a call to action for the community.
Members of the organization are hoping to empower Lincoln families to eat healthy and be active.
