The Lincoln Chamber of Commerce is supporting the idea of a new arena-convention center. However, the chamber advises against being too similar to Omaha's.
Lincoln Chamber of Commerce President Jim Fram says a preliminary report from a consultant should be back within a week. Fram expects a full report from the consultant in four to six weeks.
Part of the report will say where the arena should be built. Downtown merchants, who commissioned the report, would like the arena to be close to their stores. State Fair supporters would like officials to consider their land for the arena.
Fram supports Lincoln's need for a new arena-convention center, but advises against copying Omaha's Qwest Center in terms of size and cost. The Qwest Center cost Omaha $291 million.
