You may remember 70 Army National Guard soldiers from the Lincoln area began training at Fort Hood just about three weeks ago.

The 313th Medical Company from Nebraska began mobilization training at Fort Hood on October 18th.

We've learned all 70 members of the 313th are fine and safe.

According to Lt. Col. Bob Vrana, the Medical Company was training in North Fort Hood, about 20 miles from where the shootings happened.

Vrana says he learned of their safety almost immediately after the massacre.

Lt. Col. Vrana says, "Shortly after the word first got out about the shootings the commander called our command division to let our folks know that everything was OK with them. The 70 soldiers were all accounted for and safe. About an hour after that time, I was in contact with the commander and he indicated that they had been placed in what he called lock down until the shooters were apprehended."

Vrana says once the soldiers were released from lock-down, they continued their training as scheduled leading up to their deployment overseas for Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Vrana says the National Guard has a calling tree they use in case of emergencies to get a hold of guard family members, allowing word to get out very quickly that all 70 guard members were OK.
