From an economic standpoint, a casino that draws tourists to Nebraska is preferable to having slot machines scattered across the state.
That's the opinion of Creighton University economist Ernie Goss.
Goss said at an Omaha forum that large casinos bring new money into the state, while small slot parlors in bars and restaurants compete for local dollars.
Some gambling proponents want to allow rural communities across the state to sponsor slot parlors, while others want a limit of one or two destination casinos.
The limited two-casino proposal will be on the November ballot.
Goss said he doubts that slot parlors along I-80 would lure out-of-staters. Most people traveling through the state will not take the time to stop he said.
