It's still unclear what caused a soldier to open fire on his comrades at Fort Hood, but this shooting has put Post Traumatic Stress Disorder back in the spotlight.

Major Nidal Malik Hasan treated soldiers suffering from PTSD and now, he's blamed for the shooting rampage that killed 13.

While investigators haven't confirmed a motive, Hasan listened to graphic descriptions of war everyday and some are wondering if secondary PTSD could be a factor.

The shooting at Fort Hood is one of the largest shootings to take place on a U.S. military base. When tragedies like this happen, the mental state of those involved is always of concern.

"With the current situation in the United States with the war, the incidents of PTSD is becoming more known and talked about in the community because of the fact that we have returning military veterans coming back from the war," said David Miers, a counselor at Bryan LGH Medical Center.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can happen to anyone who survives a frightening event.

"They're irritable, easily startled, they might see more anger,"said Miers. "A combination of many different symptoms that occur for one month or longer, then typically a diagnosis of PTSD is given."

But, Miers said many PTSD sufferers don't seek help.

"Unfortunately there's individuals who don't seek treatment because of the fact of the stigma attached to mental health," said Miers. "They do see it as a sign of weakness and that's actually false."

Instead, Miers said it's a sign of strength because the person is reaching out to end his or her suffering.

"It's definitely important to seek help because if you don't seek help then those symptoms continue with your daily living and seeking treatment can then help turn things back around again," said Miers.

To live a healthy life, physically and mentally.

If you or someone you know is experiencing PTSD, help is available across the state. Click on the following link to learn more: http://medcenter.bryanlgh.org/index.cfm?objectid=E63CF51F-E7EA-C451-DFA761B73777018D

Secondary PTSD? Give me a break! Behold the contortions the PC Multikult crowd will perform, just to avoid mentioning the obvious...

As much as this story infuriates me, I'm glad it's here for all to see. Let everyone witness the contortions the PC Multikultists will go through to cook up some pap in an effort to avoid stating the obvious--he did it because he is Muslim and hates the kaffirs!

By the way Terra, suffering secondary PTSD? You got to be kidding me!? You DO NOT get PTSD from talking to someone about their experiences in war. You want to report on illnesses that are contagious, stick to reporting on the swine flu!

I hope everyone caught what he said, "That Allah is great," before going on a shooting spree killing and wounding innocent and unarmed soldiers.

I was taken aback at this story! To show the man's picture several times throughout the story, you made an attempt to color PTSD as the cause. We all know that he had never been out of the states. I just want to know why your station tried to pull the wool over your viewer's eyes. The man took from this country in order to get free education and then murdered fellow soldiers. He is a terrorist in every since of the word, a cold-blooded murdering terrorist. Call it like it is and quit trying to shape our thinking.

He never suffered from PTSD. Just because he listened to it all day did in no way give anyone the right to say he has it. That diminishes the ones that do.

The guy does not suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He is either nuts or a terrorist. Let's call this what it is.

He's never been assigned to a combat zone in his life. Quit trying to use PTSD as an excuse for this mass murderer.
