Mark Vasina is working on the statewide petition effort to repeal LB775, which gives businesses sales and income tax breaks for creating jobs.
Opponents of the program say it is unfair for LB775 to escape state budget cuts while other parts of state government, like education funding, have been reduced.
Delegates of the education association, which represents 25,000 teachers and other school workers in Nebraska, voted Saturday on a proposal to inform the union's members of the petition drive.
Vasina says the delegates voted 151 to 144 against supporting the petition drive. Said Vasina, "Certainly, we're disappointed."
Nebraskans for Peace, the state employees' union and a variety of other groups are supporting the drive.
