While thousands of people spent their day getting ready for the Nebraska football game, others spent time collecting money for their organizations or to build awareness for their cause. They say game days are the perfect time to do so.
Collection cans in hand, a group of University of Nebraska Lincoln students walk the campus, hoping Husker football supporters will also support The Children's Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha.
"We are hoping that any change will go a long way. People will take a couple dollars out of their pocket and hopefully we can re-use a bunch of money for the hospital," said Jenna Comes, Dance Marathon Chair.
The student-led organization, Dance Marathon has raised more than $250,000 for the hospital in the past 7 years. Some of that money coming straight out of the hands of Husker fans.
Dance Marathon isn't the only group cashing in on game days.
Lincoln's Child Advocacy Center hosted it's own pre-game party Saturday.
"People are pretty generous on these days. It's nice to have them come in and say hi, find out what The Child Advocacy is all about and make a donation," said Lincoln and Lancaster County Sheriff, Terry Wagner.
The Child Advocacy Center offers a safe place for young victims of sexual and physical abuse while their case is investigated.
Center officials say the tailgate fundraiser will help generate the cash needed to go toward a new, larger facility, while also building awareness.
"Tons of people are downtown on Husker game days and what better way to get people in to tailgate for a great cause," said Wagner.
