A hostage situation ended peacefully over the weekend, but not before the suspect racked up charges in three Nebraska counties.
Authorities say that's because of the fast response and teamwork of at least five law enforcement agencies.
The incident started when a Columbus man kidnapped his estranged wife on Friday. Authorities believe it was because he wanted to see his children.
Jeremy Kudron's minivan was spotted at the Tractor Supply Company in Grand Island on Sunday, and a pursuit began with G.I. police around 9:00 a.m.
"During the pursuit Jeremy Kudron swerved, almost striking Officer Webb," said Officer Roger Philbeck. "Then he fled our jurisdiction and then Merrick County apparently took over."
"The Nance County Sheriff's Department was contacted by the Merrick County Sheriff's Office," said Nance County Chief Deputy Sheriff Mark Monroe. "Their deputy informed us that he ran two vehicles in the ditch head on."
After reaching speeds of more than 100 miles per hour, the chase ended at 32-year-old Kudron's mother's house near Silver Creek around 10:00a.m.
"He pulled into the yard and got the young lady out of the van and they went into the house," said Monroe. "I spoke with him on the phone. He threatened to blow the house up by cutting a propane line into the house and lighting on match to it. We subsequently had officers of our department get to the propane tank and shut it down"
Within an hour more than 50 officers from county, city, and state departments had arrived.
A state patrol negotiator talked Kudron out of the house peacefully, but the incident wasn't over.
"In route he did assault a transporting officer and tried to escape, and that was quickly foiled," said Monroe.
Attempted Escape tops a long list of charges Kudron now faces in three counties.
"He's going to be referred for attempted first degree assault on an officer, use of a weapon in a commission of a felony, flight to avoid arrest, and willful reckless driving," said Philbeck.
"Our county is looking at false imprisonment, protection order violation because his estranged has a protection order against him, resisting arrest [because] he refused to come out of the house, fleeing to avoid arrest," said Monroe.
According to Monroe, Kudron is being held in the Platte County Detention Center on $100,000 bond.
