Tuesday morning, a Saunders County District Court judge sentenced 49-year-old Jeffrey Glazebrook to life in prison for first-degree murder.

There was no mention of parole for Glazebrook because the penalty must be in accordance with the law at the time the crime took place - which was 1977. Saunders County Attorney Scott Tinglehoff said all the law said at the time was the minimum sentence for first-degree murder was life in prison. Tinglehoff says he doubts parole will ever be granted for Glazebrook.

In 1977, Glazebrook, who was 17-years-old at the time, reportedly attacked and sexually assaulted 97-year-old Sadie May McReynolds in her Ashland home. McReynolds later died at a Lincoln hospital. An autopsy determined that her death was a direct result of the sexual assault.

Cloyd Boydston, grandson of the victim, said he and his family are happy with the sentence and it's nice to see justice finally served.

Glazebrook's sister, Linda Hiatt of Ashland, was upset with the sentence. Hiatt believes her brother had an unfair trail due to some of the stories brought up about Glazebrook. She said she has complete confidence her brother is innocent. Hiatt says the family is in the process of filing an appeal.
