It may not be freezing outside this week, but winter is on its way and now the less fortunate people of Lincoln will be a little warmer.
Raising Coats with Raising Canes coat drive collected more than 1400 coats over the past several weeks, that's up from about 300 when they started two years ago.
Since its creation in 2007, restaurant owner and operators Justin and Jennifer Jones have been able to donate over 1200 new and gently used coats to the Peoples City Mission.
Justin says reaching out to the community is a large part of what his business is about, and they're happy to help.
All the coats were given to the People's City Mission Friday, and were handed out the same day.
Pastor Tom Barber says there will be enough to keep everyone at the mission warm, plus 1000 more for the rest of the community.
But the need is even greater than that, so another local organization is holding a coat drive for kids.
Professional Networking Group has teamed up with Cedars and US Bank for Coats 4 a Cause. Barrels are located at 9 US Bank locations across Lincoln where people can donate coats and other cold weather items. PNG are asking for children's and teens coats to be given.
All of the coats donated at US Banks throughout Lincoln will be given to kids of all ages at Cedars.
Because of a great response from the public, the drive has been extended through Saturday, November 21st.
