The Team-Mates Mentoring Program and UNL fraternity Lambda Chi Alpha teamed up for the Third Annual Football Run to Kansas Thursday.
Tom Osborne, co-founder of the TeamMates Mentoring Program, officially kicked off the run by handing off the football to the first Lambda Chi Alpha runner outside the steps of Memorial Stadium.
The 220-mile run will end on Friday, November 13th at 3:00 p.m. with the football being handed off to Coach Mangino outside Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Kansas.
Individuals or businesses can pledge support to the run by going to teammates.org and clicking on the donate button.
The fraternity has raised $4,000 towards the $10,000 goal.
The fraternity will be running through the TeamMates communities of Palmyra, Nebraska City and Auburn in route to Lawrence.
The TeamMates Mentoring Program was founded in 1991 by Dr. Tom and Nancy Osborne. TeamMates is a school based mentoring program that matches adult volunteers from the community with students in grades four through twelve. Mentors meet one hour per week to provide support and encouragement to youth. The goal of the program is to see youth graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education. The TeamMates Mentoring Program serves more than 4,000 youth in 114 communities across Nebraska and Iowa.
The TeamMates mission is to positively impact the world by inspiring youth to reach their full potential through mentoring.
