Crews from Nebraska Public Power District have restored power to most of the 2,000 customers that were without power a good portion of Monday.

Jeanne Schieffer with Nebraska Public Power District said they have reduced their numbers to 95 customers who were still without power in the communities of Shubert, Burchard, Barada and Lewiston around 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Schieffer said that crews worked late into the evening Monday night and are continuing to work through today to try and restore power to all customers.

A winter storm warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant  amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency.  If you must travel keep an extra flashlight.,  food and water in the vehicle in case of  an emergency.

NPPD is also sending some line tech crews to help Norris Public Power. She said that, at times like these, public power groups work together to help get things back up and running as quickly as possible.

"A lot of it was due to ice on the conductor and especially when it's combined with wind, the galloping wind can cause the conductor to knot together and cause outages," said Schieffer.

Several southeast Nebraska communities lost power earlier in the day Monday during a winter snow storm that struck that portion of the state.

Communities of Pawnee City, Table Rock, Burchard, Dubois, Humboldt, Dawson, Crab Orchard, Shubert, and Verdon had been impacted by the storm. As of 2:30 p.m. Monday, approximately 2000 NPPD retail customers were without power along with approximately 4200 customers served by Norris Public Power District, an NPPD wholesale customer.

Norris Public Power District has been busy working all day to restore power outages associated with the winter storm that struck southeast Nebraska on Monday. As of 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, there were approximately 400 Norris customers without power located in rural portions of southern Gage and southeastern Jefferson counties. Most of the damage stemmed from heavy, wet snow and wind causing hundreds of broken poles and downed power lines.

Norris crews along with crews from South Central Public Power District, Southern Public Power District, Perennial Public Power District, Seward Public Power District, Nebraska Public Power District, and Beatrice Board of Public Works will continue to work into the night on restoration efforts.

Customers currently without power should make alternate arrangements for shelter for Tuesday night and Wednesday.

To "annoyed": You should be thanking these power districts for working as hard and long as they do; and in the weather conditions they work in, for all the time and work they devote to giving customers power again. The power companies do not just suddenly decide to cut off some customers power, this was mother nature and you should appreciate help from the power districts. The next time you see a lineman or foreman out working on the power lines and it's snowing or raining or storming in any matter, stop and say Thank you. They work in extreme measures for their customers. Please reconsider your feelings towards the Norris Power District and let them know you appreciate their concern. ** And the power companys do not take their phones off the line.

It is easy for a highly paid Norris employee to tell people to be patient. I am sure that she is not sitting in the dark or has food rotting at her house or has to rely on others to meet her needs. Why doesn't Norris give people some incentive for the invonvienence? I am sure that a significant credit on their customers bills would be a welcome sight being so close to the Holiday Season!

I just have one question. If you don't have power to heat your house with a 3 y/o in it, how do you make a comment on this website? Wireless device? Just wondering?

YOU KNOW ITS KIND OF HARD TO GET A HOLD OF THE POWER COMPANY WHEN THEY TAKE THE PHONE OFF THE LINE, WHEN THERE IS A 3YEAR IN THE HOUSE THAT HAS NO HEAT! THE POWER COMPANY SHOULD GET TO THE ONE THAT DONT LIVE IN TOWN,
