Rod Gangwish has negotiated terms of trade agreements and farm bills and was president of the National Corn Growers Association.
Yet an announcement in a University of Nebraska Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources press release left the Shelton farmer nearly speechless.
Gangwish is a 2004 Nebraska Hall of Agricultural Achievement honoree.
He has farmed corn, soybeans and alfalfa near Shelton for 30 years. He has attended annual meetings of the Hall of Achievement since being selected as a member in 2002. At the meetings, he mingled with farmers who he considered legends. He never thought he would be brought up in the same breath with those farmers.
But based on his years as a leader in the ag community and the Kearney Area Agricultural Alliance, the officials at the ag and natural resources institute felt Gangwish was a good fit.
