GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- Fonner Park's biggest race of the season brings in lots of support from around the country, and all for one big race.

The $75,000 Bosselman Pump & Pantry-Gus Fonner Stakes is the biggest race of the weekend.

This is the second to last weekend for Fonner Park's season, as next week will be dedicated to Kentucky Derby betting.

And according to Fonner Park officials, the weekend is not only big for them, but for all of Grand Island.

"We kind of look at it as Christmas shopping for a merchant toward the end of the year, you know. Like to have these last two weekends because the weather gets better," said Bruce Swihart, the chief operations officer of Fonner Park. "We got some horses coming in from across the country and it's just a big time of year for us. Fonner park has become a destination point so if you start totaling up the meals and the rooms and the gasoline and the shopping and what have you, that's a huge impact on the community."

The winner of the big $75,000 race was Lead em in Ken, a horse out of Lexington, KY.
