A dust storm that cut visibility to zero is being blamed for a multi-vehicle pile-up that left a many as eight people injured near Rising City.

Authorities say the situation apparently started when a car drove into the back of a semi trailer truck, then was hit from behind by another semi. Injuries were believed to have been minor.

Shelby Rural Fire Chief Jon Eller says the storm was coming through with winds estimated at 50 miles per hour. Emergency crews found three cars and three semis scattered on Nebraska Highway 81.

In a separate wind-related accident, two vehicles north of Lincoln were impacted with brown-out conditions as well. Lancaster County Sheriff's sergeant Tom Brookhouser says his cruiser was blown around on the road getting to the accident scene along Nebraska Highway 34.
