Kearney Student Drowns

The University of Nebraska-Kearney student who drowned in a sand pit Thursday is being identified Friday as Terence Lyman of Omaha.

He was a freshman defensive lineman for the Antelope football team out of Omaha Northwest.

The Buffalo County sheriff's office he was attempting to swim across the D-X sand pit when he sank from the view of witnesses. Others at the pit called 9-1-1.

A Kearney Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Dive Team found the body about 5:50 p.m., about 30 minutes after the report came in.
