Two elderly women were killed Wednesday when their car crashed into the Sapp Brothers building in York.

Police Sgt. Norm Cobb says a series of events led to the deaths of driver Avis Beckman, 84; and passenger Dorothy Minnich, 89. Both of the women were from Stromsburg.

Cobb says the women were traveling eastbound when their car entered an intersection and was hit by another car. After the collision, the women's car spun and accelerated, crashing into the corner of the Sapp Brothers building.

No one in the building was injured, but the crash caused major structural damage to the building.

Cobb says the impact killed Beckman, and Minnich was pronounced dead at York General Hospital a short time later.
