A Doane College football player is charged with sexually assaulting a child. Investigators say he assaulted a 14-year-old girl.
Friday, 19-year-old Alan Branting was arraigned in Lancaster County Court. Branting is charged with first-degree sexual assault of a child.
The incident happened a couple of weeks ago.
Police say Branting and the girl had been talking online for a few months prior. Branting is said to have picked up the girl from Southwest High School. Investigators say he took her to a wooded area nearby where she was assaulted.
LPD Investigator Kerry Crosby says crimes like these can often be prevented.
"Everytime one of these things happen - I finish saying the same thing. Parents communicate with your kids. Know where your kids are going and who they're talking to. Not just at the skating rink but on the computer, online."
Branting's bond is set at $75,000. He was ordered by the judge to have no contact with anyone under the age of 16.
Branting is a freshman on the football team. Officials tell us he's currently suspended from Doane College pending the investigation.
