Kearney home construction appears to be heading for another strong year.
Fifty-five single-family building permits, valued at almost $9 million, were issued in the first four months of 2004. At that current pace, at total of 165 building permits will be issued.
In 2003, the city set a record with 174 houses built for $28.5 million. This year's and last year's totals both top the average for the three previous years, which was 124 houses.
Kearney Building Inspector Max Richardson said the city expected another strong year, but no one anticipated a continuation of last year's building boom.
