The Stanton County sheriff's office says it has captured two 16-year-old escapees from a Grand Island detention center.
Sheriff Mike Unger says the teens reportedly escaped and stole two vehicles about 5:30 a.m. Monday in the Grand Island area.
Authorities later spotted the vehicles and a high-speed pursuit developed on U.S. Highway 275 and Highway 57. That chase passed through the town of Stanton at speeds Unger says reached over 120 miles per hour.
Unger says the two teens ran into a dead-end in a residential area, abandoned the vehicles and fled on foot. The two were later spotted walking along an old highway and were taken into custody without further resistance about eight this morning.
The two, from Santee and Lexington, were being held in Grand Island on theft-related charges. Now the teens also could be facing a number of charges in Stanton County related to the chase.
