It has been nearly a month since an Army major shot and killed 13 people at Fort Hood.

Now a Nebraskan whose son is stationed there is raising funds to help those who lost a loved one.

One treat at a time Jackie Greever is raising money to help families who lost someone in the Fort Hood shootings.

She says she could have been one of them.

"My son was at Fort Hood when the shootings happened," said Greever. "I was pacing the floor and crying and you know, the typical thing that a parent would go through when they hear that kind of news because I did not know if my son was ok."

Two days later she finally got the answer-her son was ok.

"My son and I had talked after the shootings happened and he asked me if there was anything we could do to support these families," said Greever.

That's when the military mom went to work planning bake sales and distributing donation cans.

Her group-Nebraskans For Fort Hood Families-is growing.

"My dad is a veteran and I know the families over there are probably hurting, so I thought it was a good idea," said Dawna Moore of Ravenna.

Greever hopes the idea will help cover expenses the military can't.

"What I hope from this is that we can help support these families, because they've lost somebody that they love and that could have very well been my child," she said.

If you'd like to donate, Greever holds bake sales at Kearney's Central Community College.

She also has donation cans distributed in the Kearney area.

You can donate through the Kearney Area Community Foundation by calling 308-237-3114.
