Grand Island to Get Army National Guard Facility

Grand Island will be the home to the new U.S. Army National Guard facility starting next month. According to Colonel Tom Schurrmans who spoke at the press conference today at the central regional airport the facility will be state of the art and among the best in the nation.

Originally the Army planned to station eight apache helicopters in Grand Island but then switched to housing six Chinooks and four light utility helicopters. Schurrmans says the change to Chinooks is a good choice since apaches are not capable of helping in a state crisis.

The smaller light utility helicopter will be stationed at the Grand Island airport next month.
