The From Nebraska Gift Shop at 8th and Q Streets in the Haymarket has all kinds of gifts for everyone on your list, and if you shop there, you can, at the same time, provide a platform for local artists, jewelry makers, and even wineries.
From the ever-popular Husker merchandise, to handmade crafts, and historical tales, if it pertains to Nebraska, the From Nebraska Gift Shop probably has it.
"Nebraska has a lot to offer, they don't have the big mountains or anything, but we do have a lot of great things in Nebraska, great people, and we just try to showcase some of it here in the store," said owner Connie Mahaney.
On December 15, 2009 only - get 20% off your wine purchases by telling Owner Connie Mahaney you saw her on 10/11.
So if you're still looking for something to get those out-of-town relatives, or to take to a Nebraska-lover's holiday party, their food section is a pretty safe bet.
"Christmas is our really big time of the year because of all the food baskets that we do and the shipping... Dorothy Lynch in Nebraska is a popular item, Misty seasoning, Bakers' chocolates, we do have the Big Red popcorn, the popcorn that's still on the ear that you stick in the microwave and watch the kernels pop off," Mahaney said.
Mahaney says of about 26 wineries across the state, they carry wine from 16 - including some fun labels, like the outlaw series from Nissen Winery in Hartington, Nebraska.
"This particular one is Jesse James. On the front it has the outlaw's poster, on the side it tells what the outlaw's connection to Nebraska is. So besides being a good wine, it's kind of a fun bottle just to take to a party or even to take home yourself," said Mahaney.
And for a unique shopping experience - you can stop by the wine bar, and have a glass while you browse.
"The wine bar is pretty unique, it's pretty Nebraska. It's actually a grain bin that we literally got out of a field down by Tecumseh, and put it up here, and that is what we use for our bar," said Mahaney.
A true state store, where everything's from Nebraska, even the owner herself.
The From Nebraska Gift Shop is located at 8th and Q Streets in the Haymarket, and they're offering 20 % off your wine purchases for 10/11 viewers today only, December 15, 2009. Just stop by and tell Mahaney you saw her on 10/11.
