On Thursday December 17, 2009, the Investigation Unit received information from the Johnson County Sheriffs Office and the Tecumseh Police Department about the possible location of stolen firearms from Beatrice and Gage County.
On Friday December 18, 2009, the Investigation Unit obtained a search warrant for a residence in Beatrice. The Beatrice/Gage County emergency response team executed the warrant and recovered numerous firearms from the residence. 23-year-old Willy Chanmynarath, was arrested for possession of a stolen firearms and felon in possession of a firearm.
Further investigation by the Beatrice Police Department Investigations unit along with the Gage County Sheriffs Office, led to the arrest of 18-year-old Corde Honea, for Burglary and Possession of a stolen firearm, possession of stolen property, and possession of a defaced firearm. This investigation lead to the recovery of approximately 20 firearms from 4 different locations within the city of Beatrice, and the clearance of four burglaries, one in the city and three in Gage County.
Based on the fact that several stolen guns have not yet been recovered, authorities have reason to believe these guns have been distributed throughout Beatrice and Gage County. Therefore the Beatrice Police Department and Gage County Sheriff's Department with the cooperation of Gage County Attorney Randy Ritnour is announcing a 72 hour gun amnesty program. If you have a gun that you turn in to the Beatrice Police Department or Gage County Sheriffs Department by noon Christmas day you will not be charged with possession of stolen property.
