Two Marines from Nebraska were among three U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq this week.

Nineteen-year-old Kyle Codner graduated from Shelton High School last year. Twenty-five-year-old Matthew Henderson graduated from Palmyra High School in 1998 and attended Nebraska Wesleyan for two years before joining the Marines.

The two are the 14th and 15th soldiers with Nebraska ties to die in the Middle East operations.

The Department of Defense confirmed the deaths Wednesday. Lance Corporal Codner and Corporal Henderson were both assigned to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force in Camp Pendleton, California.

A statement from the U.S. Military said the Marines died in the Anbar province while conducting security and stability operations.
