Two blizzards with snowfall totals well over 10 inches each have left some Nebraska cities in budget binds.

In Hastings, for example, City Administrator Joe Patterson says the cost of keeping city streets clear will probably reach between $150,000 and $170,000. The city snow budget is only $100,000, however.

Hastings officials are looking at getting some help from federal disaster programs.

In Lincoln, officials say the two storms will probably cost the city more than half the $4.5 million budgeted for snow and ice operations this winter.

Omaha officials say the city is $1.6 million over snow budget because of the two December blizzards.
