Cheney Back in Lincoln

The nation's vice president is back in his boyhood home for the first time in ten years. Vice President Dick Cheney arrived in Lincoln aboard Air Force Two at about 8:15 tonight (Thursday).

Cheney was born in Lincoln in 1941 and lived most of his early years there. Though he swung through Omaha only last July, Cheney has NOT returned to Lincoln since 1994.

Tomorrow (Friday), he will preside over a private reception for two-thousand dollar contributors to the Fortenberry campaign and a 250-dollar-per-person breakfast at the Embassy Suites in Lincoln. About 300 contributors are expected to attend the breakfast.

Democratic candidate Matt Connealy has scheduled a competing rally at his campaign headquarters in Lincoln. Nebraska Democrats have also scheduled an event dubbed the ``Nebraska Can't Afford
Dick Cheney Rally'' for the same morning.

Fortenberry and Connealy are seeking to fill the seat held by
Representative Doug Bereuter, who is leaving Congress September
First to become president of the Asia Foundation.
