An early morning fire police say was set at a Chadron playground caused an estimated $60,000 in damage.
Police Chief Jerry Crews says a group of high school students staying in a dormitory at Chadron State College for a wrestling tournament reported the fire around 1:30 a.m.
State Fire Marshal Pat Gould says the blaze was limited to just the playground equipment. The blaze kept firefighters on the scene for an hour.
A community effort had purchased the heavy plastic equipment about two years ago.
Various school board members and maintenance workers say they do not know what, if anything, is salvageable.
