State Senator Ray Mossey of Bellevue has been arrested on suspicion of prescription fraud and carrying a concealed weapon.
Police say Mossey, a retired Omaha police officer, was arrested Friday at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Omaha Police spokeswoman Cathy Martinec says Mossey was arrested after someone in the hospital's pharmacy called police when Mossey tried to fill prescriptions for painkillers seemingly from several different doctors.
Mossey is out of jail after posting bail. He did not immediately return a call by the Associated Press seeking comment.
The 36-year-old Mossey was tapped by Governor Mike Johanns in 2002 to fill a seat left vacant when Jon Bruning was elected Nebraska's Attorney General.
