The Lincoln Public School Board has voted for the district's next superintendent: Steve Joel. The board's offer is tentative pending a background check and contract negotiations.
Board members unanimously voted Tuesday for Joel to replace Susan Gourley, who has served as the district's superintendent for the last six years.
Joel has been the superintendent of Grand Island Public Schools for the last ten years. Prior to his stint in Grand Island, Joel worked as the Beatrice superintendent for six years.
Gourley is expected to retire June 30, with Joel stepping into the job on July 1.
The Board has been searching for the right candidate for the last six months. It received 28 applications, which it narrowed down to seven finalists.

not who i would have choosen. I am a friend of one of the other candidates and i was hoping it would go to that individual instead. I don't get to choose tho.......too bad.
Having just moved from Grand Island in 2007, I don't see how this will benefit LPS. He was only looking for an opportunity to make a name for himself. The probability of who they will move from GISH into the superintendent position makes me honestly want to move my children out of Grand Island.
Thank you very much..
