A prison inmate accused of overpowered two guards to escape in February and taking an Omaha man hostage for several days has waived his preliminary hearing on Douglas County charges.

Michael McGuire was in Douglas County Court Wednesday. The 55-year-old is charged with six felonies connected with the kidnapping of Authur "Fred" Baker in Omaha and for a shootout with police before he was captured.

McGuire escaped from prison guards February third during a visit to the Tecumseh hospital. He was captured four days later after a shootout with police in midtown Omaha. No one was injured.

McGuire also faces more charges in Johnson County related to the escape.

McGuire was in prison serving 193 years for previous offenses that include robbery, kidnapping and rape conviction.
