While many women served for the United States in the world wars, it was in World War II that the group known as WASP came out.
WASP stands for Women Airforce Service Pilots and one of those pilots, Evelyn Sharp, is from right here in Ord, Nebraska. Sharp was one of the first women to serve as a pilot in WWII and the airport in Ord is named after her. She died during a forced landing of her P-38 in April, 1944.
Sharp was honored Wednesday, along with other Women Airforce Service Pilots, for her service with one of the highest awards, the Congressional Gold Medal. The award was presented in Washington, D.C.
Another Nebraska woman who documented Sharp's life in a book accepted the award in her honor. Diane Bartels wrote a biography on Sharp called "Sharpie: The Life Story of Evelyn Sharp".

I heard that the award ceremony will be covered on c-span. Can anyone confirm and advise time/channel? I'd like to record it, but won't be home tomorrow. Thanks
