The experience is much like delivering a baby, the only difference, the patients are robots.

Southeast Community College, BryanLGH College of Health Sciences and BryanLGH Medical Center are partnering to give students a unique experience in the Birthing Center.

When Chelsey Bartling handed the newborn to her mother, it was one of the first times she helped deliver a baby.

"It's good because we can make mistakes.  We can say the wrong things and not do some of the things that we aren't supposed to and learn from them rather than making a mistake and hurting someone."

Barcling says, "I delivered a baby today which is new."

The only difference, the mother and even the baby are robots.

The Southeast Community College student from Malcolm is getting real world deliver room experience at BryanLGH West.

From pain during contractions - to the joys of holding a newborn for the first time, the robots are helping Chelsey and her classmates experience it all.

Barcling says, "I could not believe it, you get to hear the heart rate. You can do blood pressures on them you can do everything on them it's very real like."

The environment is designed to give students an opportunity to train in an environment modeled after a real hospital.

Barcling adds, "It's good because we can make mistakes. We can say the wrong things and not do some of the things that we aren't supposed to and learn from them rather than making a mistake and hurt someone. So it's a really good learning experience and we always pick up new things every time we do it."

A learning tool meant to teach Chelsey and her classmates long before they're trusted with delivering real newborns.
