Some people just need a reason to get up off the couch and hop on their bike. And Lincoln's Phil Wolfe is giving them a reason to do so.
Every Tuesday night until the end of October, Phil's biking buddies will make a fun, 10-mile trek to Eagle in search of nachos.
Phil is know as "Mr. Nacho." And he says his brainchild just gets bigger every year, "We started out with 6 riders on the first ride and we now average 50 a week."
Phil taught physical education at Kahoa Elementary School for 30 years, so he knows how to get people excited about exercising. His favorite part of the Nacho Ride as been the new relationships he's built, "The most enjoyable part has got to be the people I've met. Bikers are just friendly people and I've met a lot of new friends doin' the ride."
Barbara Erickson admires Phil and his great idea, "He's very enthusiastic and he gets people involved and it's good for their bodies, get 'em in shape!"
The 10-mile jaunt starts at the Mo-Pac trail head. They go by Walton and end up in Eagle.
And once riders reach the turnaround point in Eagle, they refuel with nachos at the One-Eyed Dog Saloon.
Phil says the more the more riders the merrier, and you can join him every Tuesday night until the end of October. They get started around 5:30 at the trail head near 84th and O street in Lincoln.
