Annual Uncle Sam Jam Takes Over Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. Thousands of people were at Oak Lake Park - just to see the big fireworks display at the annual Uncle Sam Jam.

The Uncle Sam Jam had a little something for everyone this year: music, games and...of course, snow cones.

With a live cover band, people were bumping to the music... and kicking back.

Jared Rice said it would be his baby's first time ever seeing fireworks.
"We've lived in Lincoln for about four years and this will be the first year since then...maybe a new tradition with the little one," said Rice.

Others said they look forward to this event every year.

Danica Canaday said she and her daughter have made tons of memories every year. "The relay races. We got third place in the three legged race last year."

Kids got to spend the day hitting up fun new attractions that Lincoln Parks and Recreation offered this year. One of them was "gaga ball," where kids could play Israeli dodge ball in a pen.

Some took to the water and enjoyed rowing on the canoes. Lincoln Parks and Rec told 10/11 that about 77 volunteers came out to help run the event - and it was them who managed so much of the fun.

The planning for this event starts in January every year and Pepsi assisted in donating the fireworks this year.
