A Bellevue man has announced his candidacy for the Nebraska Legislature.
Richard Carter says he will seek the seat held by state Sen. Abbie Cornett, of Bellevue, who will be ineligible for re-election in 2012 due to term limits. The 33-year-old Carter says he intends to stress jobs, the economy, education, taxes, and veteran and senior issues in his campaign.
Carter is a U.S. Air Force combat veteran who completed two deployments in Afghanistan and Iraq in 2004 and 2005. He says in a
statement that he teaches economics and business courses at
Metropolitan Community College.
Carter has a bachelor of arts degree in business administration
and a master's degree in economics. He is a registered Republican
and served as co-chairman of U.S. Rep. Lee Terry's 2010 re-election
campaign.
