Boone Co. Sheriff Passes Away After Battle With Cancer

Albion, NE-- Update: On Wednesday January 8th, 2014, the Boone County Courthouse in Albion will be closed all day for the funeral of Sheriff David Spiegel.

Sheriff Spiegel passed away January 4 at his home following a battle with cancer.

Spiegel, 58, was a member of the Nebraska State Patrol for 26 years. As a State Trooper he spent 21 years on the SWAT Team, 15 of which he was Team Leader.

Following his retirement in 2006, he was elected to Sheriff where he has served the last 7 years.

He is survived by his wife Linda of Albion, three daughters Michelle Tomjack of Chambers, Brandy Trummer of Omaha and Kristy Spiegel of Albion. He had one granddaughter, Calli Tomjack.

He is also survived by his mother, Ramona Spiegel, and one sister Becky Olne along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends.

Dave was preceded in death by his father Robert Spiegel and grandmothers Ardy Haugh and Edna Spiegel-Young.
