A church is usually a place you can turn to for support.
But what if the church needs a little support of its own?
Members of New Creation Community Church, a Seventh-Day Adventist Congregation, rose up to the occasion Sunday, an raised the Church's walls.
"It means they're passionate about their church and they've got a fire inside to see a place like this go up," said Pastor Marty Thurber.
The congregation, has moved 6 times over the past 10 years.
Members hope this 7th move will be the last.
"We felt like sort of a nomadic people for a long time. We've rented different facilities all over the city and we just feel like we can't grow. We can' t feel secure unless we have a place of our own," said Michael Heveler, a church member.
The church purchased a 20 acre lot at 5620 South Coddington Lane 3 years ago. It planned to someday build on the property once enough money was saved up.
Church members donated the funds for the project.
The effort is encouraging.
"People aren't quite as committed to their faith, their religion these days. So these guys really are and it's exciting to see that," said Pastor Thurber.
Thurber said he hoped to have 70% of the building complete by the end of the day.
Workers will complete the interior construction during the winter months.
Thurber expects the project to be complete by springtime.
Until then, the church will continue to meet in a store front at the Lincoln trade center.
